2021 Doonan Trailers Detachable Dovetail

The detachable dovetail is a must have option for anyone wishing to load wheeled or track vehicles on their Doonan steel or combo drop deck trailer. This versatile option can be designed to fit drop decks with rear deck heights ranging from 35” to 41”. The units are built with either 4” steel or 5” aluminum cross-members, and have either aluminum or steel side rails to match the design of the mating trailer. Like the traditional fixed dovetail, the detachable can be installed with up to three ramps and a variety of floors including wood, aluminum and steel self-cleaning lugs. Unlike the traditional fixed dovetail, the detachable unit can be removed to allow the user greater functionality of the base trailer. The mating trailer will need to be equipped with a standard female 7-way receptacle in the rear in order to operate the two (2) standard taillights and the single pair of side-marker lights. The detachable dovetail is provided with all the necessary hardware to mount the unit and traditionally comes in black, but can be special order in a variety of other colors.
